Ireland fly-half Byrne to join Gloucester
Ireland fly-half Ross Byrne is set to leave Leinster at the end of the season and join English Premiership side Gloucester on a three-year contract.
The 26-year-old has been a key player for Leinster, helping them win multiple Pro14 titles and reach the knockout stages of the Champions Cup.
Byrne has represented Ireland at both junior and senior levels, making his debut for the national team in 2019 and earning 10 caps so far.
Gloucester have been seeking a replacement for departing fly-half Danny Cipriani, and Byrne’s signing is seen as a major coup for the club.
Byrne’s move to Gloucester will see him link up with former Leinster coach Stuart Lancaster, who is the senior coach at the English club.
Speaking about the move, Byrne said: “I’m excited for the new challenge at Gloucester and looking forward to testing myself in the Premiership.”
Leinster head coach Leo Cullen wished Byrne well in his new venture, saying: “Ross has been a fantastic servant for Leinster and we wish him all the best for the future.”
Byrne will join Gloucester at the end of the current season and will be looking to make an immediate impact for his new club.
Gloucester fans will be eager to see Byrne in action and hope that he can help the team improve on their current standing in the Premiership.
